Wallonia announces 3,400 new charging points
On May 23, 2025, the Walloon Government announced an important breakthrough in the context of sustainable mobility.
Through a renewed framework agreement with the eight territorial development agencies, space will be created for the installation of 1,724 charging stations, representing more than 3,400 charging points on municipal public domain by 2026.
This decision ends the standstill since 2021. But the challenge is only just beginning: how do you turn this political commitment into a locally functioning, smart, and sustainable charging network?
An ambitious plan without exclusivity
The new model is inspired by European best practices and provides:
- A concession contract coordinated by IDETA
- Update of previously selected locations (2021–2022)
- Municipal permits for installation on the public road
- High quality and maintenance requirements
- And above all: no exclusivity
Each municipality therefore remains free to allow additional charging solutions, even outside the concession.
Why local authorities need a strategic partner
Installing a charging station is one thing. But realizing a functional, future-oriented network requires more. At Powerland, we believe in a total approach, with advice, technology, and execution under one roof.
Our approach:
- Mobility analysis tailored to the local network
- Selection of AC/DC chargers according to the usage profile
- Installation according to European standards
- Preventive maintenance and SLAs
- Smart charging systems with load balancing and user management
- Anti-blocking systems against long-term occupation
How Powerland aligns with the Walloon specifications
This comparison shows how Powerland offers a concrete response to policy objectives.
What does this mean for your municipality or region?
Smart charging infrastructure is more than cables and posts. It requires thoughtful choices: from location to technology, from maintenance to accessibility. And it requires a partner who thinks along and executes — locally and strategically.
Building a connected and sustainable region together
Are you:
- An employee within a municipal government, responsible for mobility, public space, or sustainability?
- A representative of an intercommunal or territorial development agency?
- A manager of a business park or public parking lot interested in charging infrastructure?
Powerland is ready to guide you — from plan to post.
