Governments and project developers

The various governments are fully committed to electric driving. This also means that sufficient charging stations for electric vehicles are needed. This applies to companies and private individuals, but certainly also to municipalities and large projects. There must be enough charging stations at every new sports complex, residential complex or shopping center. With our expertise and total solutions, Powerland can help you with this.

Obligations

To drastically increase the number of charging points in buildings, the European Parliament approved a revision of the European Directive on Energy Performance of Buildings (EPBD) in 2018. The regulations distinguish between residential and non-residential buildings.

  • For new or thoroughly renovated residential buildings with parking space for at least 10 vehicles, an adapted pre-installation is mandatory so that the installation of charging points can easily be done later.
  • In thoroughly renovated or new non-residential buildings for at least 10 vehicles, pre-installation is mandatory for 20% of the total number of parking spaces. In addition, at least one working charging point must be provided.

Charging stations at existing buildings

A postponement applies to existing, non-residential buildings with more than 20 parking spaces.They have until January 1, 2025 to install at least two charging points for electric cars in their parking lot.

Other existing residential buildings such as private homes are not yet subject to the current regulations for charging stations.

Charging stations in public places

Another part of the legislation stipulates that sufficient public charging stations must be available in public places, such as supermarkets, shopping centers and public buildings.

These charging stations must also meet certain safety requirements. For example, they must be able to withstand different weather conditions and be vandalism-resistant.

The rollout of public charging infrastructure on the public domain is done by the Flemish government via a concession contract. Some cities have chosen to take care of this themselves.

Fast chargers for municipal services

To encourage the switch to electric driving, a well-developed charging infrastructure is necessary. This means that in addition to sufficient regular AC charging stations, there must also be a number of fast charging stations available.

Municipalities, cities and local governments also benefit from this. Due to the electrification of their fleet, there is always a great need for fast charging of sweepers, waste trucks, vans and other service vehicles. A fast charger is increasingly being installed in the workshop or warehouse.

Municipal charging plaza

More and more municipalities are choosing not only to install individual charging stations, but also to build a charging plaza. Such a charging plaza contains several charging points, often including at least one fast charger.

Installing a charging plaza has many advantages, both for EV drivers and the municipality. The municipality can make optimal use of the available space and EV drivers don't have to spend as long looking for a free charging station. The municipality therefore suffers much less from search traffic.
