What does a HEMS do?

A Home Energy Management System (HEMS) is a small device in or near your electrical panel that measures and intelligently controls all your energy flows. It automatically decides when your solar energy is best consumed, when your battery charges or discharges, and when your car charges at the lowest cost — based on your consumption, solar production, battery status and energy price.

You don't need to do anything yourself. The system measures, thinks along and adjusts accordingly.

How does this work in practice?

  • Solar energy: Your HEMS detects surpluses and automatically directs them to your charging station, heat pump, boiler or household appliances. This way you use more of your own electricity instead of injecting it cheaply into the grid.
  • Home battery: Your battery charges when there is a surplus or cheap electricity, and discharges when your consumption increases or electricity becomes more expensive. Result: fewer peaks and lower energy costs.
  • Charging station: Your car charges when solar energy is available or during cheaper hours, without overloading your installation.

Monitor everything via one app

You see your solar production, consumption, battery status and charging behaviour in real time. Powerland can also remotely monitor and fine-tune your system when your situation changes — for example when you add a second car, a heat pump or your consumption profile changes.

With a dynamic contract, the electricity price changes every hour. Your HEMS responds to this automatically: charging when electricity is cheap, discharging when it is expensive. This way you actively optimise your energy costs, every hour of the day.

Does this also work with my existing installation?

A HEMS can in many cases be integrated with existing solar panels, charging stations or home batteries. Powerland opts for solutions with broad compatibility — including heat pumps and energy meters. This way your installation grows along with your family and your energy needs.
