A BMS (Battery Management System) monitors the condition of the battery modules and keeps them within their permitted operating limits. An EMS (Energy Management System) controls the wider energy system, including the battery, solar panels, site consumption and charging points. It determines when the battery charges or discharges, taking its status and the system limits into account. How the BMS and EMS are integrated and communicate depends on the battery storage solution.
