Charging site at DB Services

From a 1000 kVA high-voltage substation to a charging site that keeps growing.

At the DB Services site in Merelbeke, Powerland has spent the past few years building a charging site that has grown in phases alongside demand. The starting point was not the charging station, but the grid itself: a new high-voltage substation with a 1000 kVA transformer, creating enough capacity to build on step by step.

A complete charging site was built on that foundation: 22 Etrel AC chargers and a public Alpitronic DC fast charger rated at 300 kW, complemented by a 5-metre advertising totem and green-marked EV parking spaces — making the charging site visually recognisable from the public road.

To keep everything within the available power, smart control was added to the installation: an EMS with load balancing and peak reduction, delivered with support from a Vlaio eco-premium.

In 2026, the charging site was expanded with 6 additional AC chargers, bringing the total to 28 charging points.

What made the difference?

By starting with a generously sized high-voltage connection, DB Services was able to expand the charging site in stages — from 22 to 28 AC charging points, with a DC fast charger alongside them — without repeatedly running up against the limits of the connection. Smart control keeps all those charging points operating within the available power, even at peak times.
